A very sad update.

It breaks our hearts to write that Claire Missanelli passed away on Thursday morning, March 31, 2011, surrounded by her loving family and friends in Manhattan.  Claire had been battling breast cancer courageously since 2003.  The recent and sudden change took us all by surprise.  Her family and friends marveled at her liveliness, optimism, and the fact that she always wore her beautiful, brilliant smile.

Claire was born and raised in Bristol Borough and attended La Salle University and New York University, where she studied film.  Claire worked as a producer with DevlinPix in independent documentary film and was a gifted filmmaker.  She reached global audiences of millions and touched everyone she met: not only with her heart, but with her wisdom and experience. Claire’s impact on the world has been powerful and she will be dearly missed.

Claire was preceded in death by her father, John and her sister, Mary.  She will be sadly missed by her heartbroken mother, Clara, her sister, Norma “June,” her sister, Christine and brother-in-law, Donald, her brother, Joseph and sister-in-law, Ineke, her adoring niece, Nicola, her two nephews, Martijn and Jeroen, cousins, and her many wonderful and supportive friends in Manhattan.  Though Claire was the youngest of the children, she was considered to be the heartbeat of the family.

Your loving and generous donations have been greatly appreciated and went towards treatments for Claire that unfortunately did not work in time.  The money that was not used for treatments will be donated to a breast cancer fund in her name in the near future.  The breast cancer fund is TBA.

Condolences to Claire’s family can be sent to her mother, Clara Messanella, 510 Pond Street, Bristol, PA 19007.  At her request Claire was cremated and her ashes were taken to Coney Island and spread in the ocean.  A memorial service, followed by a celebration of Claire’s life, will take place in the late afternoon on May 1st in Manhattan at a venue to be determined.  Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, April 17, from 1pm-4pm at her mother’s home in Bristol.  Please call Nicola @ 215-266-5875 for more information.

Thank you all for your loving support in this very difficult time.
